We all need a team of healthcare providers to take care of the various issues we face on a regular basis. For example, we all need a primary care doctor. Be it a family practice doctor, internal medicine (for adults only), or pediatrics.
We rely on a dentist to take care of our teeth, and an optometrist (or ophthalmologist) to take care of our eyes.
But who is taking care of your spine and nervous system? The spine and nervous system require continuous ongoing maintenance to maintain optimum function and to maximize your health potential. If you don’t maintain something it starts to break down (silently). And after a while, after enough accumulated damage has occurred, you eventually break through to what I refer to as the “crisis” mode. That’s the point when you first start noticing a symptom of some kind. Perhaps it comes in the form of back pain, or neck pain or a headache. But let me ask you a question. When did the problem start? Did it start when you first noticed the pain or long before due to years or decades of spinal misalignment (which slowly wore down the delicate tissues in your spine)?
A doctor of chiropractic is a medical specialist who has 8 years of education (just like your M.D. and your dentist). He is specifically suited to finding and removing problems with the nervous system. Just like how everybody with teeth needs a dentist, everybody with a spine needs a chiropractor.
Your chiropractor is NOT a replacement for your primary care physician (or any other doctor). He is a part of your healthcare team. If you don’t already have a chiropractor as part of your healthcare team, you should correct this immediately.
Chiropractic is (in my opinion) the best choice for back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, sciatica, sports injuries, work-related injuries (work comp), and automobile accidents. But where chiropractic care really shines is when you use it as for wellness & prevention. Just like how you go see your dentist on a periodic basis for checkups and cleaning, you should see a chiropractor periodically for a spinal tune-up and make sure you’re not already on your way to having a problem.
